The Power of Parkour

Hey all,

Parkour is a truly amazing art! Since I began parkour over 5 years ago I have seen it create nothing but positivity in peoples lives, in many more ways than just physical health. I have seen people overcome shyness, change their perspectives, achieve things they never thought possible. Parkour continues to prove to me that it is a powerful transformational force in peoples lives. What lies beneath the movements, the attitude of parkour, has the ability to actualize what was at once thought impossible.

Recently one of our regular members named Gwen, has informed the community of the benefits she has received from her parkour practice, she started parkour over a year ago...... actually I think it would be better said in her words.

"When I started parkour, at age 61, my fall bone-density test showed that I had just slipped into osteoporosis. I set and appointment for another scan in a year and started doing parkour. I hung in all winter, every Sunday, because I love doing it. I do what works for me, and different people give me pointers as I need them. I can jump over short walls, though I always find it surprising, and I have developed a great love for the feeling of flying I get from going up or over a wall, jumping the length of a sidewalk square, and climbing along a railing. I have advanced, slowly, and wish I'd taken this up when I was 14 and running through the woods, skipping, and climbing walls and trees.

My bone-density scan, in November 08, showed that I had moved back up, to osteopenia, which means I have denser bones. After a year of doing parkour and taking a plant-based calcium, calcium aspartate, I have gone back up to where I was the year before I got osteoporosis. This is wonderful, conventional wisdom says it's not possible! I now do parkour twice a week whenever I can, only for an hour or an hour or a half, it's not such a big commitment, and I glow after every session, from the sheer joy of doing the activities and hanging out with such a splendid bunch of people
."

This is a testament to the positive benefits that the practice of parkour can bring to anyone regardless of age sex or background, parkour is for everyone.
